CRS awarded a Fair Trade Fund Development Grant to SERRV to support a three-day workshop for artisan groups throughout East Africa in mid-2006 focused on identifying U.S. market trends and developing strategies to meet evolving U.S. preferences. Representatives of eight of SERRV's producer partner organizations from Kenya and Uganda participated in the session, and were joined by CRS-supported artisans representatives from Madagascar.
After the workshop, participants wrote to SERRV to express their gratitude. Here are some of their comments:
“Now, we have more knowledge of the American markets and also the pricing of our products.”
“I learned how to use the Internet to compare my products with the same kind that are being offered from all over the world, check their prices, quality, and presentation to give me a clue of what to correct.”
“I will be sharing what I learned from the training with our artisans so that together we can put the knowledge into practice and help improve our work.”
“Thank you!”
